Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born in and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. In the age of five the father of her was chosen as City's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. She and her family moved later into this historic building. As a 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduate She is an instructor in vocal music. Sullivan performed as a contralto for the choir for children and after a few years, in the adult chorus. Sullivan wasn't exposed to secular music at first. "When I was 11 and a half, someone asked me to sign up for a gospel record. I was not going to do that," she says. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to children from major cities. Then I had an opportunity to perform What God Allows on It's Showtime Apollo. My fans were very enthusiastic." She performed with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday in the year thirteen. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age fifteen. It was her first time signing with Jive Records when she was 15. She recorded an entire album, but the album didn't get released. Sullivan was later dropped from the label. Missy Elliott was her producer on several tracks on her debut album. The most notable of these was "Backstabbers" of Timbaland and Timbaland, which Elliott produced, became a hit.
